Hi Everyone,

I was playing around tonight with my settings for the local PD which uses a P25 system. It is new to them, so they are still working out some kinks.

Anyway, I was running without a PL code entered. I entered the code and it seems to be a better signal...clearer speech.

Any truth to this...possible? Probably my imagination.

hello- i coukd be wrong, but i dont think the tone decoder works with digital.
i havent found any p25 systems using pl and digital together as of yet, although i havent searched for them either.

I think you are correct. The local PD still does some analog links for use with other departments that aren't digital.

Ther is NO way to use PL or DPL with P25.

PL and DPL require an analog carrier.

P25 has its own code scheme called NAT (Network Access Code).
It is embedded in the data stream

If you enter a PL on a P25 channel, you wouldn't hear anything as there is no code transmitted to break your squelch. IF you can still hear the audio with a PL enabled, your PL decoder is not working correctly.

That would all depend on how the radio works.
Has someone tried this?

I have run this freq with PL on and off. I get the same amount of traffic either way. I have other freqs that if I don't enter a PL I get other neighboring communities' traffic, but not when enabled. I believe the PL decoder is working fine. When P25 is received it must ignore this setting.

I did further review of the quality, and it was in my head. I believe they did some form of tuning on their end, as all signals from them are better. Coincidence I guess.
