Owner's manual is fine on telling you how to designate a talkgroup as a "Priority Talkgroup" but says nothing about how to "undesignate" one and thereby remove its' "P" icon. I have a number of talkgroups within the same bank with the "P" icon showing next to the left of the talkgroup ID location and number while in "HOLD" mode: P M-6:16848

Can anyone advise on the secret to de-selecting a talkgroup from the Priority Talkgroups and thus, eliminate it's "P" icon?

Your help is greatly appreciated in advance.

I would try just doing the same thing that turned it on. It is very common for identical key presses to "toggle" things on and off.

Uhhhh..... well.... that's kinda why I posed the question. "Doing the same thing" doesn't turned them off or remove them.... and the manual is silent on the issue other than telling how to designate a "Priority Talkgroup"... nothing about removing that desination.

I believe each list has one Priority talkgroup - like it or not. Unless you select the talkgroup in another position, the default for each list is the TG in the first position. Thus 1-1, 2-1, 3-1 etc. You cannot de-activate the priority from the first position of each list (x-1) unless you assign the priority to another, i.e 2-2, 3-6, 4-0, etc.

If you choose to leave position x-1 empty, the P (priority) will remain on that talkgroup position.

Personally, I find little use for Priority in trunking as the 796 works, so I never used it.

Following your post; I now see where this is exactly how the Priority Talkgroups are configured. That being the case (with up to 100 Priority Talkgroups with all banks active), I also have to agree with your assessment that I would be best leaving the system Priority feature toggled "Off". Thanks for the explanation.
