BC8500xlt external speaker jack

I'm trying to identify a problem with a friends bc8500xlt. He has the external antenna plugged into the phono jack on the back of the scanner (I think this is the problem).

Can someone confirm for me that this port is actually an external speaker out, and the BNC jack is for the antenna?

I haven't been able to locate any info on this scanner because it is so old.

yes the antenna jack is the BNC, the rca jack is probably a record out
