I live in Rankin County. Can I use my Uniden BC855XLT to monitor the sheriff's frequency. (I tried to figure this out from all of the information, but I'm lost)

Thanks,

Richard

Currently you can use ANY trunktracking scanner to monitor all agencies in Rankin County. They use an aging analog 800 MHz TRS which can be followed quite easily. It is unknown currently if they will switch over to MSWIN for usage as are quite a few other counties. There were plans a few years ago for Rankin, Washington and Warren Counties to join on the Central MS Regional TRS, alongside Hinds, and Madison to form a combined mixed mode system covering them all. Last I heard this plan was scrapped due to lack of funding. With MSWIN coming online in the entire region, Rankin may go over to it in the future.

To elaborate:

The Sheriff isn't on a specific "frequency" What you'll want to do is follow your radio's instructions on programming CONTROL CHANNEL ONLY mode for Motorola Type II.

And then program in the frequency: 855.4375

Then back out of the menu mode and go back to scanning. Set the bank you stored that frequency in to SEARCH and you should begin to hear all of the agencies using Forest County.

Sheriff dispatches id is 3248

so when you see 3248 displayed on your screen, that is the sheriff's dispatch channel. You add that as a talkgroup and then take your scanner out of search mode and back into scan mode. So now all you're gonna hear is the id 3248.

Forrest County Public Safety Trunking System, Hattiesburg, 2 Others, Mississippi - Scanner Frequencies has all of the agencies talkgroup codes you can program in. You're looking for the DEC column.
