BC895XLT programming by computer

I have a BC895XLT and have been programming manually. I decided to try and build the computer interface cable which I have done, and I have the Scancontrol v7.1.0 software installed. When I run the Scancontrol, it finds the cable I have connected to COM3 however when it tries all the different speeds, it says "radio not communicating".

I have a PDF of the scanner manual and as show in the following screenshot, it refers to "press and hold until you hear two short beeps". The PDF is blank after "press and hold" so I'm not sure what button(s) to press and hold.



Here's a pic of my cable, wired as follows:

3 1

Although a bit sloppy looking as I'm re-using connector from another application, it tests good with no shorts.



Has anyone successfully connected this scanner to a computer and able to program or operate it? Can you tell me what button(s) are supposed to be pressed to initiate connection?

Interestingly enough, I came upon that key combo just after I posted this on RR. I tried to see if I could delete the post and then the dinnerbell rang.

The sw then found the radio and I was able to download, see the channel data, edit it, save it, and upload it back to the scanner, as well as operate the scanner using the computer.

Radio Setup

The BC895XLT has to have the baud rate selected. On the radio keypad:

1. Press and hold the "ALRT/RMT" key while turning on the radio.
2. Release "REMOTE" key. The baud rate (bps) will appear on the display.
3. Press "HOLD" or "LIMIT" to select baud rate (9,600 bps is maximum and recommended).
4. Press the "E" key to make selection.
5. Turn radio off.

Now turn radio on normally to use. To enable Remote mode press and hold the "ALRT/RMT" key for 3 seconds or more until the "RMT" display indicator comes on the radio screen. This activates Remote mode. To deactivate Remote mode press and hold the "REMOTE" key again.

NOTE: While the radio is in Remote mode the keypad is locked and not available. Remote mode remains active until you deactivate it, even if you power the radio on and off.

Start ScanControl while the radio is in Remote mode.
