BC898T Serial port communications

I have a new BC898T and when I try to downlod frequencies it fail. I am using COM3 which works with othere applications. It says "Communication Error! Please check BC898T SS Remote Setting". Does anyone know what to do about this? Thank you.

As with all Uniden scanners & scanner software, make sure that the port speed is set the same both in the scanner and in the software.

I did See page 17 of the manual, middle of the page and did as instructed. I still get the same error.

Are you sure that the COM3 port is the correct one ... Check the PC device manager to identified your port and chage in your software if neccessary.

Gday Bob make sure you are using the com port for that software only otherwise error will keep showing and which programm are you using on the pc fot the 898 and also make sure you are not using the com port for another programm at the same time,the reason i say that is that some of my radios i use 2 different software for the same radio and i still use the same com port however i make sure that 1 of the programms is closed otherwise the error will show up.

Nothing else is open that uses any COM port. When I'm not using the BC898 I unplus the Serial cable & replace with another for the different application. Thank you. Bob

No, upgrading only allows more things in the software, it will not fix this communication problem. I have never used the SS software, so I am at a disadvantage as to what help I can offer on that regard; however, it still doesn't sound as if you are communicating to the radio.

Two things come to mind:

1. What other application do you use on that port?
2. Have you tried to communicate with the radio using any other means like hyperterminal or IDTracker?

Hyperterminal is not available in Windows Vista Ultimate.

Forget it. I will look for a different application to do what I need to do.

I don't have the info readily at hand, but, the manual leaves off the step to push the E key to ENTER what you just keyed. Set your baud rate and they push E. Your PC should then sense it. None of the programs will work until the radio is "told" to talk to the PC.
