bc996 trouble

I just got the 996 a few days ago. When I first turn it on, it scans fm broadcast, public service and other service serch freqs. Did I hit a wrong key when trying it out or is this suppose to happen. Is ther a way to delete them out of scan and search. I have read the manuel 10 times with no luck. please help

You need to lock out each service search that you have turned on.

Look at pg 96 in the manual and look for Search with Scan

Is ther a way to reset the 996 back to factory so I can start over

I think it is press < 2 9 hold > while turning on the scanner..
