After reading all the above posts i am not seeing the answer i need .. yet.

So i received the BCD996P2 scanner today into my work so i can do some testing and playing with it before i pass it along to my customers. I have tried to program it with FreeSCAN & the ARC-XT Pro; both unable to find the scanner that is connected to the computer with a different USB port unlike the BCD996T & XT style. It is a USB serial port similar to a digital camera.

I have looked at the driver and it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)".

What can i do?

Make sure that you installed ARC XT PRO V2.0 and the Uniden device drivers.

Look on that pager under the header:
Serial Drivers for USB

Then it's a zip file with 2 files - copy them to the desktop.

Plug in the scanner -

Find it under com setting.

Force to load above drivers if it does not do it on it's own.

- in the other post you said you couldn't get them to work - and here you can't find them???

The Driver for the BCD996P2 serial port is not installed. Install the Latest driver for the device.. Already followed upman's link for the drivers and restarted my computer.. I have never had issues Installing a driver before today. Error says BCD996P2 doesn't have a driver.

I can certainly see how people might have issues installing this driver manually. What is so difficult about releasing it as an executable file? I've done my share of driver work and this is a first for me...

What I did on Windows 7. May work for others...

Download the zip file. Extract it. Place both files on your desktop.

Open Device Manager. Right click on the Comm Port/BCD996P2 device. Select Update Driver Software. Select Browse my computer option. Select Browse. Select your Desktop. Select Next...

Good luck.
