BCD 396T blotchy audio, not clear, garbled

Not sure exactly what to say...
i recieve half transmissions clear and half garbled.

The scanner skips from dat to lnk to p25 during a transmission.
this happens quicky. so the tranmission is chopy and incomplete

What system? What system type is it programmed as in the scanner?

Most of the time i recieve a transmission and it sais apco25 and sound clear.
Other times i recieve a transmission and its switches lnk/dat/apco25
these transmissions are good recption

What system is that? What is "edcs"? If you mean EDACS, digital voice on EDACS systems cannot be decoded by scanners yet. It probably never will.

when i had mine in myrtle beach i had the same on police channels and fire channels were more clear. I was constanly adjusting the volume due to this, as i had a ear piece in. I guess fire dudes know how to properly operate the mic as opposed to the coppers. coppers like talking 8" from the mic as opposed to the 3" that fire dudes.

Is the system you are trying to monitor "local" (i.e. you're sitting inside the city/county that you want to listen to or are you outside of the area)?

How strong is the signal (how many bars are showing on the 396 display)?

I routinely try to listen to digital systems that are north (Baltimore City), west (Howard County) and east (Upper Eastern Shore) and many times the signal is so weak, it's pretty choppy.

It's a funny thing about the digital - it has to be a fairly strong signal or your can forget trying to listen to it (unlike the analog systems).

Speaking of digital systems and weak signals - I'm fairly close to Blatimore City and I can listen, but it is difficult. I'm quite a bit north of the District of Columbia but I can hear/listen/understand that system much, much better... There are many possible reasons for this - none of which I really control.....

The reception culdnt be better on most tranmissions, about 4 or 5 bars
Most below 3 are not dependeble.
Have others postied in my area? Somthing similar?
So essentially we are thinking digital voice issue then?
I am also cannot listen to cetain talk groups from the the police like 10414 and 10422

The transmissions sound identical to the clear tranmissions i can hear, just skippy like.

No, the scanner displays EDCS due to copyright issues with the term EDACS.

The 396 cannot decode digital EDACS transmissions. They are not P25 compatible.

This problem i am having is not edcs but apco 25 :shock:
It switches from lnk to dat to p25 rapidly on some transmissions causing garbled or chopping tranmissions. :?:

Minnesota has a new system called "a.r.m.e.r" suposedly it's all apco 25.

eventually 95% of the stat will be a.r.m.e.r.

This is where i got my info.

I have enterd these 2 systems and imput the same 2 talk group id's into both systems in hopes that they become active. the talk group id's are for plymouth mn , 10414 , 10422. i'm not sure what system to program to hear these 2 id's. Mabe if some one looks at these sites they can tell me.

I'm not sure how significant this is but plymouth is suppose to be E.F. johnson

Could be. The original problem sounds like a P16 system programmed as P25.
