I am new to the 396 and attempting to learn how to use it. I am unable to get the quick keys to work. I have programmed several systems with associated groups within the systems and given each system a unique quick key (I have given all of the group quick keys within the system the same quick key as the parent system quick key). I have read the owner's manual, as well as Mark's BCD396T User Manual and I still cannot get the quick keys to work. For example, lets say I have system A assigned to quick key 1. When I turn the scanner on it begins scanning all of the system and groups within the systems. If I want to go to system A, as I understand it, I depress "SCAN and then 1. When I do that as soon as I depress "SCAN" I receive a double beep and just continues the normal scanning of all of the systems. I've tried locking out all of the systems and then trying the quick keys and that doesn't work either. Do I just not understand how quick keys are supposed to work?

How do I:

Turn on the scanner and get it to scan only the system that I have selected via the quick key?
Select via quick keys, multiple systems (but not all programmed systems) to scan?
Turn off systems actively being scanned via quick keys?

Thanks in advance for any assistance and your patience with a newbie.

While scanning, pressing 1 will enable/disable any systems assigned to SQK1. To listen to only 1 system, you need to disable the SQKs for all other systems.

1) Start with most SQK disabled. Press the SQK(s) for the system(s) you want to listen to (enable). For systems that are enabled that you don't want to listen to, press their SQK(s).
2) Press the SQK(s) for the disabled system(s) you want to scan.
3) Press the SQK(s) for the enabled system(s) you want to stop scanning.

It sounds like you are already in the SCAN mode, so just hit the quick key button, it is a toggle, so it will turn on or off your various systems. You don't need to hit the scan button if you are already scanning.

I don't use the "system lockout" feature very much, that can be handy if you have multiple systems using the same single quick key.

Another tip: type in the quick key number as part of your system name alpha tag, this will help you keep track and display what system uses what system quick key.
