Well after weeks of wondering if I was going to fall prey to the silk print issue on the lettering of the BCD-396 it has happenend and will be sending the radio back for repair. Now back to the old 250d for now to get me through.

If anyone else in the area has this radio and it is a low number serial be expexting the same problem. I suspect it depends on how much hand programming is used as to how long it takes for the letters to start and show wear.
