Seems like a question for the company that makes that particular piece of software.... However, are you asking because you already own that software?

The 436 comes with programming software so, for the most part, you really don't need to purchase other software....

Now, stay tuned for others to chime in an tell you to buy their favorite software .... but you don't need to buy software unless you know you've tried the Sentinel software that comes with the radio and you don't like it/think something else is better....

FWIW - the ScanCat website does say:

Dec2014

Added support for Unden BCD536HP and BCD436HP Unidens New "Home Patrol Units"

BCD 436 Programming

Yes I own that firmware however it does not show a BCD436 in it. I have programmed bcd396 bcd352 bcd996 etc. This is a first for the bcd436 and it did not come with the programming software. I would like to know how to get the software or where to send it to get it programmed. This is a christmas present for someone however it's no good if it's not programmed. It was purchased from Bearcat Warehouse, When I telephone them I get put on hold and left hanging or get disconnected.
Thank You in advance.

See the (blue) links in the message I sent above. The leads to the software that you can download.

Some scanner vendors will program a scanner for you - for a price (I've seen as high at $80-100). You're better off learning to program it yourself and/or have the lucky recipient learn how to program it.

The glossy video (sales pitch) from Uniden about this time 4 years and 1 month ago said it was so easy, anyone could do it (even Mabel). Well, after doing some basic updates, it is true, anyone can enter a zip code and start hearing stuff pretty quickly (usually). However, if you already own scanners, you probably know better than anyone else what you want programmed into it - and in the end, you'll need to know how that programming happens because, inevitably, the new owner will end up pushing a bunch of buttons and then come back to you saying "it doesn't work anymore..." and you'll need to fix it (if they can't).

Actually, it does. You can download Sentinel yourself, but a copy of Sentinel is usually on the micro SD card in the scanner. If you connect the scanner to your computer with the included USB cable and select Mass Storage, the scanner will show up as a USB storage device and you can browse to find the Sentinel installer. No other software is really necessary, and Sentinel does things that most 3rd party software doesn't.

BCD 436 Programming

OK
I have done all the above.I will try to program using the instructions that came with the Sentinel Version. I assume that somewhere along the way it will allow me to go to RR and obtain the Frequencies etc.

Update \ Update Master HPDB in the main program menu downloads database updates. Then Scanner \ Write to Scanner sends the updates (along with scanner settings and any Favorite Lists you've created) to the scanner.

" ...did it with this Windows 7 ... "

Nothing wrong with 7. For certain internet gaming activity (my results, your experience may vary) 7 works "out-of-the-box", 8.1 is "said" to work after about an hour of tweeking and testing (was not able myself), and 10 doesn't even know what your trying to do. I have two desktops and two nice laptops. Only one laptop has 10. Haven't turned it on for, what seems like, 3 or more years.

Oh yeah, to be on topic .... Nothing wrong with Sentinel either (again, my experience).
