Hello all. I figure I would post this issue here in the Delaware section in the event that this problem is related to the Delaware system....or interference in the area.

I used to own a Uniden BCD-796D which I sold to purchase a 396T. The 796D exhibited an intermittent problem while scanning the Delaware Public Safety system where the scan would stop and only hiss would be heard. Pressing scan would resume scan and the scanner would function OK for a couple of minutes before it stopped again. ARC250 Pro's level meter would show about half scale during the hiss and the scanner would stay frozen until scan is pressed again.

I just bought another BCD-796 and programmed it using ARC250 Pro and this scanner does the same exact thing. The 396T did not exhibit this problem.

I've checked the manual and internet for a possible setting to play around with but have come up empty.

Anyone have any ideas?

Best,
Brian

796 hang up

Since it shows about half in the power meter could it be picking up a signal/dead carrier or data signal?
Does it show a freq when it sticks? Since it sounds like it is picking up the same channel every time your freqs cycle, next time it sticks in that signal hit the lockout button and then try scanning again.
I have never owned or used a 796D but I did have a 396T and I know as fact that the 396T had a Data lockout option. You might want to check to see if that is set on your 396T. If it is that might explain it.
Hope this helps.

Hello,

There is a voice channel repeater that hangs open. You can attenuate the voice channel and see if the BC796D resumes scanning. The BCD396T and BCD996T have a Digital End Code Detection option which keep the units Trunking when voice channels hang up.

Hey all. It hangs on random freqs. The first thing I thought of was some type of reception interference, hence my post here instead of on the Uniden forum.

Because I use it as a base scanner I've never taken it out of its environment. I will do this and check. The scanner sits in my computer room....plenty of RF....from computer, monitor, wireless router, Vonage, etc. However, I did turn off and unplug the computer, monitor and the Vonage base, but, the problem still existed.

The problem started after I agreed to let Nextel install a tower in my backyard......just kidding.

I'll post my findings.

Best,
Brian
