You may be within range of two or more towers on whichever simulcast you're tuned to. Have a read about simulcast distortion and steps you can try and take to mitigate it. Ultimately you'd be much better off using a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200 which were designed to cope with its effects but feel free to try the mitigation methods anyway, they may or may not work
Also bear in mind that all law enforcement is fully encrypted (as is every other mode "DE" talkgroup) and cannot be monitored
Are you monitoring from within system coverage? Have you chosen the correct simulcast covering your area? Did you program by hand or did you use an app?
It's likely unable to get a data lock when it's dealing with simulcast distortion. Not much you can do about it - it either will work, or it won't. If you're intent on listening, it may be time to upgrade, or explore SDR options.
ok I am not in the system coverage map.. but i can hear the control channel. so it should lock onto it i would think i am using freescan to program it. maybe i do not have the system setup corretly I need to know how to do that.
Lancaster County is a P25 system. It does not use a custom band plan. For the 996T, set the System Type to Mot Type II / P25. Set Site Type to Mot P25/P25 Standard. The band plan is automatically loaded from the control channel on a P25 system.
