Does anyone have an answer to the following regarding start up keys....

I have a 996XT that is programmed with some conventional systems and some trunked systems. When I programmed the start up keys to only bring up a couple of conventional systems (leaving everything else, both trunked and conventional off), it has no effect of the trunked systems.

I'm using the Butel software.

Thanks,

Not familiar with Butel with 996 but I would check your system quick key editor to set which ones will be turned on by default, it should have one. Verify your quick keys for each system also making sure you have them correct which I am sure you have already. If one use's FreeScan it is located in tools menu.

Are you assigning Startup Keys to all trunked sites and to all conventional systems? Systems/sites that don't have a startup key assigned are not affected when you hold a # during startup (if they were unlocked, they remain unlocked; if they were locked, they remain locked).

Thanks for the replies..... I actually have been learning about the programming of startup keys since this morning. I found that I've been going about it all wrong. UPMan, you are correct. I learned this from experimenting. It took a while, but I figured out how things lock and unlock.

Also Bucko, your note about default pointed me in the direction of looking at how thinks were defauted in my normal set-up.

In addition, I found that there are places in the software (for trunked systems) where you not only have a start up key for the folder (name of the system) but a start up key for each site as well.

Anyway, my education continues. I'll be a pro at startup keys in a day or two....

While whatever software you might be using might have a setting for Startup Key at the system level for trunked systems, the actual scanner has no such setting, so I'm not sure what the setting in the software will do (maybe they push the same setting to all sites in the system...maybe it is ignored for trunked systems...).
