BCD396 receiving with a 20-176 antenna help

I live in the county outside KCMO and put a RadioShack 20-176 antenna on the roof. Now my reception is much improved but i've can keep my back light on my bcd396 to stay on. I'm pluged into AC power. Am i going to burn up my hand held scanner with this antenna? Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

The antenna has Nothing to do with the Backlight
Backlight is a function of the scanner, not a function of the receiving part of the scanner/antenna.

If your backlight is not working properly, you might want to have it (the scanner) serviced.

Sounds like you just need to change the backlight settings. Push the Menu button and select "Settings" and then "Set Backlight." Set the backlight to "Infinite." Now when you turn the backlight on, it will stay on unless you manually shut it off.
