Again, I am not a computer geek but need help through this process besides someone cutting and pasting what's on the Uniden site.
I have already registered my 396 with Uniden's website.
When I go to the "All My Scanner's" page as it says I should do it says go to the "Latest Firmware" column but I don't see this anywhere. Where is that?
I then clicked on the part where I'm supposed to enter an ESN.
I tried entering an ESN based on the last 9 digits of my serial number as it asks, but it also asks for an ESN checksum. Where do I find this?
Thanks, BG

Your scanner tells you your ESN and ESN checksum.

MENU key -> Settings -> See Scanner Info -> Firmware version

Butch:

There is a great big link on the right side of the registration page that says "Get ESN Loader and Checksum". Click on it and follow the instructions from there.

Click on the words
WHERE ARE MY ESN AND CHECKSUM?

That will open another window. (I don't suppose popup blockers prevent that, I don't run one)

In there you will find several links.

Click on Retrieve BCD396T V1 ESN Update Tool (download that)

Install and run that to update the radio to the intermediate level of firmware. After that you will see the checksum and ESN appear on the radio in the menu option. THEN and ONLY then will you need to fill in those fields on Uniden's site to access the final firmware version.

I keep getting a Registration Key Error, despite using the key supplied by Uniden, with the correct baud rate and Com port. Have tried 3 times. Any ideas what I am doing incorrectly?

Cut/paste the registration kety from the My Uniden website.. it should be at the top of your screen.

Be sure there are no spaces at the end of your reg key once you paste it.

I wish it was a vacation. Trip is 28 hours of travel, 6 hours of sleep, then 3 days of trade show in HK, another flight to Tokyo then 3 days of meetings, then fly back home.

Actually, as compared to right now, that might be a vacation. :)

Yeah, as I said, Vacation. LOL.
Back in my RS days I finally got to make it to a 4th Qtr show (franchise), even with all the rambling at the meetings and what not, it was a break from work and felt like a vacation.

Updates went flawless.

All systems go.

Motorola Type II P25 better than ever here in Victoria, BC.

Thanks a bunch, Uniden, for supporting us so diligently.

For anyone having problems, it's all there in the release notes.

Because you only made half the update, your version 1.20.13 is the update to retrieve your ESN. You need to go back to Uniden site, download the new firmware updater V2.0.0.3 and latest firmware Version 2.00.07 and complete the other half of the update, this will bring you to V2.00.07.

HTH.

Now go back to "My Scanners" in the My Uniden page. Click on your scanner and enter the ESN and 3 DIGIT Checksum, you will then be able to go back to the "My Scanners" page and you will have a link for the next step to download the Firmware Uploader and the new firmware. Your halfway there. Just keep your cool and READ EVERYTHING you come accross.

I am trying to register my scanner for the MyUniden thing and it won't let me register either my 396T or 796D and get error message after submitting the form that says "An Error Has Occured in Processing" which is occuring every time I try to register, and I need to get the new firmware for my 396T

Is there a workaround to get the new firmware or not.

I got the same, "An Error Has Occurred in Processing" message. It worked on the next try. There are apparently no shortcuts or workarounds to this whole procedure; you have to do everything as outlined.

I have updated my three 996's and when I check the firmware version in the menu all three have a different number listing on the bottom line where it reads "SUM = ***" . Does SUM mean CHECKSUM and is the number related to the ESN number ?

Want to extend my appreciation(s) to Upman and the Uniden team for their had work and dedication to finalizing the newest updates for these scanners. The upgrade on my end went flawless according to the instructions, step by step. Again, thanks Upman to you and your staff. The wait was worth it. :)

Also it was mentioned that the volume and squelch was on the side of their window....mine remained at the bottom. Just my .02 worth. Enjoy !

DO NOT enter the 32826, enter everything after that for the ESN.

I've gotten to that point and it's a little confusing. The serial number is listed as 328Z (as in zebra), which appears to be a constant, followed by the variable-numbered stamped plate.

The website says to enter the following 9 numbers. There are only 8, the first of which is a 6.

Are we to enter everything PAST the 6, which would be 7 numbers?
