I’m listening to the MPSCS on my BCD396T with only one control channel programmed. Nothing else is programmed in. When it scans it shows the signal strength (usually 5 bars) and it shows DAT. But every couple of seconds it instantly drops all signal bars and the DAT display goes away. Then it comes back just as fast as I lost it. Is this normal for it? It looks like it’s flashing on and off. Will I end up missing anything when it looses signal like that?

And another question. When it shows LNK- is it listening to the radio that’s talking or is it listening to the tower that’s repeating it?

I don't think any of those links come anywhere near answering your question...

That is normal - it goes into a mode where it's ready to go to the next system so it prepares to move off the control channel. I've never noticed it missing anything side-by-side with a Pro96 so it is probably more a display thing.

If you don't want to see that, and only monitor one system, you can make the hold time to 255.

My Bc796 does the same thing if I put in tower 701.
