BCD396T Cloning Question

Does anyone know if it is possible to clone one 396T to another 396T if one of the radios has the updates installed and the other does not ? Also, I wonder if it will be possible to clone the programming from my old 396T to my new 396XT when it comes out ?

I know the answer to #2 is no. I suspect the answer to #1 is no, but unfortunately have updated my reference samples, so cannot check.

I'm not sure about direct cloning, but with software it is possible to do so. The latest version of FreeSCAN (.7G) supports all those scanners, so you can just download from one, then reupload to another.

The only caveats you may run into is system types not being the same across all 3. For example, the newer firmware on the 396 supports Motorola rebanded system, the older one does not, so you can't transfer that system.

Hopefully the programmers have been hard at work on a conversion for the 396-396XT files or this is going to be a short trip...
