I currently spend the day traversing the City limits where I live. This takes me in and out of the range of 4 towers. I currently have a control channel
programmed for each tower in each bank that I use. So each bank will have
4 control channels programmed and as I drive around the city the 95 will drop and pickup astronger control channel without my intervention. Is this feasable on the 396t and how would it be done? Im still a novice with the pro95 let alone the 396t which Im thinking about purchasing.

I don't see why not. Just create 4 different system with the control channel for each tower. Then set each system for C-Channel only. Remember the 396T only checks the 1st C-Channel if find in each system when in C-Channel only.

You do not need to create 4 systems - that would defeat your purpose. Just put all CC"s in one system.

Don't think that will work. I have a system here split into 2 zones with different main/alternale control channels. When I created one system with the 4 control channels, it would only track one of the zones. I never got any traffic from the other zone.

I remember reading in the yahoo group that the 396T only reads the 1st control channel it hears.

Exactly. If you go out of range of the currently active control channel, it will pick up the first ACTIVE control channel it hears.

If this is a SmartZone system, you may not hear all the activity that is on another zone, or you may pick up a more distant CC rather than the local CC which may be the only one with the local users on it.

To be sure you hear it all, put it in four systems and assign them all to the same System Quick Key (SQK) to activate and deactivate them with one keypress.

If you're not worried about missing things, you can program them all on one system. If the '95 doesn't have the same 'trick' as the PRO-96 does where you can make it sample ALL the control channels, the BCD396T will work as well as the PRO-95.

Thanks Joe, great explanation.

In my situation I program 2 different systems, one for each zone. I live in the east zone but can receive the west zone (weak at times). But without the separate systems, I cannot receive any traffic on the west zone unless I'm in that area.

According to UPMan, the 396T was designed to scan multiple system vs. banks with different system types. The firmware is optimized for this type of operation.
