I've noticed on my 396 that when in trunking mode, the freq. is displayed in small digits directly below the 2 text lines. When in conventional mode, the area where the trunking freqs. were only shows AM/FM/NFM, etc.

I know you can toggle the channel name/frequency on line 2 of the alpha text. Is there a way to get conventional freqs. to show up on the same line as the trunking freqs. do, so I can have 2 lines of alpha text AND the frequency in display on the smaller line below???

Anyone?

Thanks

Alphanumeric and Frequency Display Toggle

While scanning a conventional system, press [Hold] to stop on a channel (doesn't matter which one). Now press the [Function] button (on the left side of the radio) and hold it. Now while simultaneously pressing/holding the [Function] button (make sure you see a "F" character in the top left side of the LCD screen), press the [5] button, and then release both. This will now display the alphanumeric characters of that channel. This is assuming you programmed alphanumeric characters for the channels in the systems on your scanner.

This is the way to toggle between seeing the frequency of a channel and the assinged alphanumeric ID of the channel (programmed by you).

I believe the smaller line below the second line of larger dispaly is reserved for the mode of a transmission and/or the frequency of the TRS transmission being received. What you ask would be cool, though: to have the frequency of a conventional system show up on that line, too. I think the reason a TRS frequency is displayed there because a transmission on a TRS may show up on different frequencies of the TRS as the trunk tracking operation tracks the rotating frequencies. This display allows you to see from what frequency the transmission is coming. This allows an informed TRS monitor to know from what tower or site the transmission is coming.

Thanks for posting this reply! I've been wondering if this was possible for a while. Works great!
