BCD396T Firmware 1.09 opinions

I have found that this firmware update makes the Digital AGC work better unlike the previous versions but audio doesn't seem that loud even though the scanner's volume is on 10. With the previous versions the Digital AGC didn't kick in soon enough and the volume was loud for the first couple of seconds then the AGC started doing it's job.

396 v1.09 vs Pro-96 Digital Face Off Needed!! I believe this issue is addressed within this original post of the audio issue with the bcd396t. Also someone stated that the particular system your listening to may have a different tweak/adjustments on the trs system radios.

Also I have a Motorola bulletin which I read during a search on a site and clearly states " Also correct microphone usage should be encouraged (speaking directly into the microphone with the mouth about 2" away.) I myself have witnessed these cool cops talking across the room into their shoulder mics. Also note that I have to reset volume when the fire or copper dudes talk on the trunked system I follow and when I was in Myrtle Beach this past summer as well. The Myrtle Beach system was Horry County a analog trs.

Jpm, I went through that thread and didn't find any posts on AGC improvement with firmware version 1.09.

Post #1, #4, #7, #9, and #11 covers the newest firmware update. I do remember someone on this site referring a issue with the systems settings as well, referring that they all have different settings by the technicians who work on them. Some people are reporting a low signal strength to some of the audio issues as well.

I noticed this too. It still isn't anywhere near PRO-96 standards, but it seems to be an improvement. The AGC now is a smooth transition to the lower volume, not the stair-stepping that it was before.

I've noticed that the P25 audio decode is better, but the overall volume is lower as well. One of my main areas of concern is the IMHO poor 225-400MHz AM reception. I really expected the performance in this portion of spectrum to at least be on a par with the BC296D/250D series. When I put my 296D next to the 396T, I always have better performance out of the 296D in the VHF and Mil UHF bands which is a shame becuase the feature set of the 396T is totally awesome, and dynamic memory is well suited to airband monitoring.
