My Wife bought me a BCD396T for XMAS. This is a replacement for a BC200XLT that melted while charging. Almost burned down my house but thats another story. Its a great gift but I have no clue how to program it for my area. I live in SE Milwaukee County (City of Oak Creek). Would love to hear fire, rescue and police calls on this thing but havent a clue on how to get started. Do I use the close call technology? Do I need to hook it up to my computer? I am at a total loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated especially if you have a BCD396T.

Thanks :)

Close call won't do you much good for regular listening.

Hook it up to the computer and download the USAD free software from Uniden if you want to go the fast route.

It's really actually easy to program by hand once you get the basic concepts down.

It is real easy to program without a computer, it does take a while though. If you have already had experience with trunking systems, then read pages 42-95. All you gotta do is select the system (conventional, Motorola, EDACS and/or LTR Standard) If they are conventional, just put in the frequency and text tags and then the PL Tone (CTCCS/DCS) codes for each channel. If iit is a trunking system you can use control channel mode only or put in all tthe frequencies (Motorola only) and then put in the talk groups and only give the talk groups text IDs. And set you scanner to ID SCAN. That is pretty much all there is to it. Also my advice to you is to take out all of the preprogrammed systems that are in your scanner. It will save space on your scanner, so you can program other systems into your scanner. All of the information should be found on your county(ies) pages.

The USAd software si definetely the way to go if you are programming alot in, escecially of youa re getting heavy into the trunked radio systems.
