I just downloaded the Uniden software for the 396 (as I just got mine delivered today) and I am trying to get a computer connect to the scanner. I have tried ALL the buad rates and on several of them they just error out... on the others that seem to communicate, I get the blue flashing "reading system information" flashing and then get an error for "unable to read line".. Any suggestions, ideas or cures would be greatly appreciated.

So far I like the scanner. Programming is combersome and lengthy. Hoping the software will speed that up considerably.

Are you running any Palm Pilot software? If so try turning it off first. Do you have dialup that may use a comm port for the modem? Have you tried using a USB to serial cable? Are you able to run anything else on your comm ports?

I have no palm pilot applications. The serial is com 1, as I also use it for all my other programming and computer/radio interfaces. Haven't tried the USB/serial converter. I am also using ethernet connection on a LAN.

Hello,

Have you set the Baud Rate on the Radio, or have you just changed the software? On the radio, It is located at "Menu", "Settings", "PC Control", "(Off, 9600 bps, 19200 bps, 38400 bps, 57600 bps, 115200 bps)". If you haven't changed anything, it probably is "off".

IIRC, mine came set at 115200.

The COM port (Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Ports (COM & LPT) - double click on the port/Port Settings) has to be set at 115200, no flow control. If it's set slower it won't be able to communicate at 115200, even if the program tries to communicate at that speed.

Well, now that was interesting.. I got home and set it up on my laptop there and everything works just "peachy". Although I did have to use a COM4 setting, since I have a USB portable dock that the serial goes into. But it does work. Thanks for your help guys. Now to get this thing programmed up the way I want it......

Are you using the 246 UASD or the 396 UASD? And with which scanner - the 246 or 396? (Or 330?)

[Edit]
Oops - you said the 396. But with UASD246 or UASD396? Baud rate set up right? Program pointing to the serial port connected to the 396, not to a port connected to something else?
