I have a Cobra 10 watt speaker that I use with my CB and when I plug it into my scanner I get a poorer quality sound than the scanner speaker.

Should I get a 12 or 20 watt speaker and if so, will I get better quality with the 20 than with 12? I ask this because I drive a truck and it can get quite loud sometimes.

Thanks

The scanners audio driver is a very low wattage and is unable to provide enough wattage to push a 10 watt speaker. Using a higher wattage speaker will only make things worse, I suggest getting a speaker rated at a lower wattage such at 3 or 5 watts.

btw you may also try using a speaker that has a built in amplifier, these are available at most truck stops that sell CB equipment. The speaker has a built in amp that requires very little input and provides a loud 15 to 20 watts output.

Thanks for the info. You kept me from wasting money on something I did not need! I will do as you suggest.
