The complete signal strength bar logo on my BCD396T has suddenly and completely disappeared....no bars whatso ever :-( ....but the actual signal strength remains unchanged, and sounds just great as usual....I live right in the shadow of a tower so that has never been a problem....I could always get 5-bars with a wet noodle, as they say....and everything else works just fine....Does anybody have any ideas on this issue? Did I accidentally or inadvertantly turn something off, or some such thing? thanks, Tom

Did you enable the attenuator?

Thank you for responding....I checked the attenuator and it's OFF....also, I should mention that the signal strength bars seem to work properly in the FM Broadcast and Wx search modes....just not any reading whatsoever in the 800MHz APCO-25 mode....but the APCO-25 reception is very clear and strong, as usual :-( ....I just can't figger this out....at first I thought it might be a proplem in the RF amplifier stage, but if so, the other modes would not function properly either? ....thank you again :)

What does it do on other bands?

Other than 800MHz, it the bar graph seems to work just fine....but on my 800MHz APCO-25 system, there are no bars whatsoever, although I'm right next door to the tower, and by ear, the signal strength is just as strong as it ever was? Just can't get a handle on this :-( ....and all the other scanners here in the schack on this 800 MHz APCO-25 system are showing 5 bars 24/7?

Positive though your getting that nearby tower control channel frequency? 'Possible' you might be getting another tower that isnt strong enough to move the bars? I would make sure you have that tower freq. input, then try inputting say the Saginaw 868.9875 for example.
You may have multiple control channel frequencies in it and the radio doesnt look at which one is the strongest, it just grabs one that is available is all.

Then go into the main menu system setup a custom search at Search For...
Edit Custom... and set the it for 866- 868.9875 see if the bars show up.

I know Ive seen the radio still picking up P25 even though the signal isnt enough for even the 1 bar.
My guess is my first idea above is it. The fact that it is working leads me to believe that.

Bar display

Check your settings for P25 Decode Level. If you change them from auto to either default or manual, that can sometimes cause the signal bar graph to disappear. I recently noticed this on my 996T while trying to tweak a local P25 system.

Hopefully this helps!
