If anyone is interested, I have created a bunch of .usd files, primarily for Calgary and area, but I also put the trunked systems that are in Alberta in the RRDB in (since I've no danger of running out of space in the scanner any time soon).

If anyone wants the file(s), reply here and I'll post them.

I'll also make mention of how the 396 performs in the Calgary area once I get it (once UPS stops dragging their heels - I think they're shipping by horse carriage this week). Is there anyone else in Alberta using a 396 yet?

There is one guy in Edmonton with a 396 that I have seen as I just bought his 246 off him. It looks pretty damn spanky. I will be probably picking one up in Seattle in September.

Jay, did you not get it shipped up Next Day overnight Express? With an expensive scanner like that one I would have gladly paid the extra cash to have it in my hands the next day.

Still on the fence as to whether or not I will get one or wait a bit.

Well, that looked to cost about ~$50 US to do for my area, and I figured that since I am working Sunday-Monday-TuesdayPM-WednesdayPM this week (i.e. this is my last night), having it "next day" when ordered on last Friday aft would have delivered it while I was either working or sleeping.

I figured the standard delivery options, cited by UPS themselves as being "1-3 business days", would have delivered it to me yesterday or today afternoon. Silly me.

UPS shipped it from one town in MA to another over the course of 12 hours on 8th/9th July. Then it trundled across country to Minneapolis, arriving 70!! hours later, on the 12th. Some quality aging time took place in the Mpls hub for 28 hours, and as of 3 hours ago (1830 EDT), it's been scanned into Winnipeg (whether it's there or not is another story). They tell me that they should have it to me by end of business on Friday, no later. (7 calendar days = 1-3 business days?)

Oh well, my lesson learned I guess. Next time just save up the extra $50 for insane shipping.

Hey I live in Winnipeg, I will go and claim it for you

Seriously. I have bought 2 scanners off of Glen at Scanners Unlimited & have, on both occasions, paid the extra charge for Overnight Express. I had both Radios in my hands in less than 24 Hrs.

Re: BCD396T

Ask the retailer not to list the contents on the custom declaration form as a digital scanner.

I personally know of two people who had their BC396T's rejected by customs because the seller/retailer listed the radio as an digital scanner.

I know of at least 3 people who had thier radio's cleared with no problem if the customs declaration described the item as an ham radio receiver.

I own two BC396T's and looking for two more, but must sell off a couple of other older scanner's first. I'm really disapointed with the silk screen fading issue that Uniden claims only with the early serial numbers yet I have seen posting with serial number ranging from 100's too the 1200's

I'm waiting to here Uniden statement on this issue and will not be
ordering again until this issue has been fixed.

I wonder if anyone in the US has thought class action lawsuit yet, only in the US EhA

For those Calgarians who are looking for or currently own a digital scanner other than the 396T, Sell what you have a buy a 396T, This unit rocks!,
the P25 copy on Calgary CPS was rock solid and almost as good as an CPS Mot, radio.

One hint don't bother with using the Auto decode threshold, and turn off AGC mode in P25, once the 396T was manually adjusted it rock's and nearly 100% copy even running down Deerfoot trail at an 100 KMS an hour......

Jay, I have found shipping UPS expediate (air) and having UPS do the customs is in some case cheaper than UPS ground service. UPS ground service use's a different rate schedule to clear custom's. Air expediate usally took 2-3 days depending on customs. UPS told me expediate rate customs charege are much cheaper, oh well!

Well, my scanner arrived in Calgary last night at 22:00, but says it also departed Calgary today at 1:12 am. Uh, what? I hope that's from the airport to a hub, otherwise I'm going to get cranky. :)

Anyway... should have the scanner this morning sometime if all goes well.

Here's the files I created in UASD in preparation for this day... I didn't include the ones for Lethbridge, Edmonton, et al., because I'm sure people have other, better data than I do.

The systems in the zip file below include:

NextCom Motorola sysid 1222
TAC Mobility Motorola sysid 6904
PDL Mobility Motorol sysid 6E03
Caltronics Bankers Hall LTR
Caltronics Nose Creek LTR
NextCom Nose Creek LTR
NextCom Petro Canada LTR
Sekom CFAC LTR
Sekom Petro Canada LTR
(all of the above are split into 3 groups inside - Known, Suspected, and Unidentified TGs)
Also, 1222, 6904, and 6E03 are programmed as Type II no status bit even though they are Type I - don't have the fleet map yet.

Calgary DRS sysid 753F
(This has a brand new talkgroup - "NEW CHEARS", 17232)

Calgary Stampede sysid 730F

Red Deer City sysid 371D

City of Calgary EDACS I
City of Calgary EDACS II

A selection of Alberta ham repeaters
Alberta air frequencies
Alberta rail frequencies
Provincial frequencies (MDMRS, Forestry, etc)
Personal comms (FRS/GMRS/etc)
RCMP (PACS/etc)
Southern Alberta conventional Fire/EMS frequencies (Rocky View, Foothills, Willow Creek, Ranchlands, Mountain View, Wheatland, Big Horn, Banff/Louise, etc)

And some miscellaneous Calgary area frequencies.
