Has anyone who listens to burlington and has a BCD396T done the upgrade? If you did I am very anxious to hear how your P25 sounds. Thanks.

hey police freak i recently updated all my firmware i have the 396 t and the 996 t it seems to sound pretty good they added some stuff in the radios there selfs like digital end code and agc parameters settings and the p 25 waiting time option close call do not disturb etc... but yea it sounds good to me the only thing i dont like about the digital stuff is sometimes its not as bad as it used to be is when the computer drags at the end of a conversation the noise it makes and lasts sometimes for a while its annoying but i think there is something they added in the updates for that too we just have to adjust it but i havent had any problems at all here the radios sound a lot sharper if you ask me and clearer ok talk to everyone soon Danny...

I was listening to bc while driving on 95 in PA yesterday and I thought it was an improvement with the new firmware.
Thank you for your responses. After extensively reading the forums on the Uniden page about this upgrade and finding out what I can do to offset poor digital reception if that problem comes up, I'll be a guinea pig, give it a whiz and a bang today and see what happens. I'll be posting the results here, and also problems/solutions I encountered.
Did the upgrade last night. No change for Burlington county that I can see in my area. Of course I mostly monitor out of county. From where I live the west system (Medford) is the closest antenna and on each frequency I get between 2 and 4 bars, but it constantly fluctuates. I always thought this system sounded just awful, it would cut out, motorboat and sound garbled, even after the V2 update which improved every other system. And so after the V3 upgrade I guess I'll still put my 396 on a two foot tall stack of CDs and an even taller empty oatmeal can so I can pick up the Mt. Laurel system (Northwest). This system on which each frequency including the control channel only gets between a marginal signal and 1-2 bars of power still sounds about 20 times as good as the West system. At first after the upgrade i listened to the West system with the Automatic P25 setting and it sounded terrible and I'd get error percentages in the 40s and 50s. Oddly enough after messing with the manual settings (a number of 8 or 9 is the best result, using the word best very loosely) I get my error codes down to about 8 or 10, zero sometimes. I get 2 bars of power and the system cuts out. Mt Laurel system I can leave the setting on auto and it sounds beautiful with 1 bar of signal and the error codes are in the 20's. I'll keep this upgrade, pending the results of my philadelphia reception experiments. But overall I've noticed no improvement or degradation in reception of Burlington County.

hey police freak ? for you you say you leave youre radio on manual for the p 25 setting the digital stuff i read youre article on here and i changed mine to manual ever since i bought the radio 2 years the 396 t i have kept it on auto until now and notice a big improvement in the clearness i am getting a error code of it goes back and forth of course but its pretty low between 0 and 10 and i manually set the knob to like you did with an 8 or 9 seems like 8 is one notch lower in the error code part but when i had it on auto it went pretty high and hard to control and i kept getting all this racket off and on even when no one was saying anything at all so i now am using manual for philly and burl county and it sounds a lot better the ? for you is have you been using the manual for a while now ? and does it work better for you in the long run ? or did you use auto a lot too for a while ? i think im gonna try this for a while let me know how things are going ok thanks Danny...

I live about a mile from the Mt. Laurel tower and noticed awful results after installing the V3 upgrade on a 396 and a 996. You need to adjust the P25 mode to 3 and do a manual setting of 8 to get 0 - 1 errors on this system. Same applied for North Central and West as well. Also, P25 wait time should be set to 700ms, which will eliminate the "motorboating" sound.

hey adamr is that 700 ms a new setting on the radios ? i did download the version 3 and i dont remember it being on the radio before ? but that motor boat sound ive been getting a lot of that too on certain talk groups not all of them but some right now my radio is on 400 ms i think thats the default im gonna change it too 700 ms and see how things work then that motor boat sound drives me nuts it sounds terrible and sometimes it lasts for a while let me know how you make out how it continues to work for you ok ? thanks Danny...

hi all i was wondering if anyone knew how to listen to pennsauken pd ? in camden county nj i know some of there channels are encrypted but are all of them ? and i also see there using a tone called nac ? something new i guess i dont think the 396 t or the 996 t has that tone option if it does can anyone tell me in here ? and also does anyone know how to take out the encryption ? i guess thats impossible but just figured i would ask around anyway ya never know thanks Danny...
