BCD396t USB Updating

I just went out and bought the USB cord to update my bcd396t went home to update it and it didn't work. When i first plugged it in it said something about a install disc and driver. Do I need a disc or have to do something for the update to work. i just tried plugging it and didn't do anything else.

If it's from Uniden, you need to download and install the drivers first from their site.

My Radio Shack USB cord downloaded the USB drivers from the Windows update.

USB devices usually require drivers. That is not just a cable. It has a USB to serial converter built in. The USB cable requires a Windows driver to be installed before plugging in the cable so the cable is recognized by Windows. The tag on the cable says so. If it is the Uniden cable. The driver is downloadable from Uniden.
