I do a lot of road (bicycle) riding. I'd like to enjoy my scanner with my earbud headphones while riding. So, there are case holders for keys and stuff that fit in the water bottle cage.

Question:
If I put my 396 in this case would the vibration and bumps in the road that transmit throught bike frame break my 396 ? The case hold has foam padding.

as a note, I've ridden with my cell phone in one of these holders with no problem but phone is $49 bucks vs an expensive scanner. I'm willing to take a chance on the phone.

thank for any insight...

I sometimes listen to mine while commuting by bicycle. I use a single open earbud (LA-161) as I would never cover both ears while riding and just hang the scanner on my belt where it is isolated from the vibration.

On one hand, road riding isn't going to cause the same jarring as, say, single-track. But your standard road-bike also doesn't have a suspension like a mountain-bike.

Soft-foam padding should be OK.

It would be better to clip it on your person. The BCD396T is not built like a Motorola 2-way.

I think I'll keep it in a sweatproof bag and slip it my jersey instead of on the bike. Guess I'm not brave enough to try it but if someone wants to send me their 396, I'll beta test it and report back ! Just kidding, thanks for the replys folks.

I used to ride quite a bit with my 92xlt mounted in a /\/\ frs radio case designed to fit on the handlebars...While the radio popped out once or twice, AND messed with my wireless cyclocomputer, it never seemed to hurt it.. then again...it was only a $100.00 radio, and I'm not sure I would do the same with my 396...I would say keep it on your person...
