Does anyone have a USD file for the BCD396T that includes Viper? I just got one and am having problems getting it just right. I'm not sure if I should use Type II Standard, or P25. As Type II Standard, I'm getting a few talkgroups that come through with the "digital" sound instead of decoding. I can't remember the talkgroups now (I was on the road). As best as I can tell, once you've typed in all the system information as Type II Standard, you can't change it to P25.

Anyway, it would be much easier if I could start with a "known good", and then build on that. Thanks in advance.

Hey bud..long time no talk to :) Hopefully Harry "Redclay" will be able to share his USD 396T file...I went the other route and purchased a Pro96 many moons ago...I am now thinking of getting a 396T to add to the collection...as far as I know you should enter the system as a "Type II Standard" because the "P25" association is for pure P25 systems with a 9600 Baud Control Channel...The Wake County system is a Mix Analog/Digital system with a 3600 Baud CC...might want to check your antenna as well as make some Audio decode level adjustments ...
I will be back in NC in a few weeks and if you still don't have the problem fixed by then we will have to catch up over lunch and get the rig running 100%
Happy Monitoring!

I've attached my BCD996T USD file. To use this with the 396, you'll need to open it and add the frequencies for the site(s) you want to monitor (for the 996 the sites are already in, but 396 UASD doesn't know how to read the site section, yet). I also included only the major dispatch channels, so there might be some channels of interest to you that you would want to add...

Marshall, good to see (your name) again, too! Upman, thanks for the file. I'll play with it for a while and see if it does any better. Marshall, for some reason I can't adjust the P25 decode manually. I changed the setting in the system setup to "manual", press the top button twice while holding FUNC, and it will display the P25 decode settings(usually 8) with error rate, but turning the top knob won't adjust the P25 decode settings. Am I missing something obvious here?

You shouldn't need to change the threshold setting to manual. Leave it at AUTO. Watch the threshold values. When they settle down, press F while turning scroll to set the auto threshold values to a setting that is closest to what the values settled down to.

I'd help more, but I'm in Charlotte today and have yet to catch any digital traffic on VIPER (even in ID Search mode). Looks like most of the digital is being used over in the Wake County area.

Additionally, upon further investigation I found I'm not actually getting VIPER...was getting the Charlotte system on one of the same CC freq's. The Charlotte VIPER site is barely discernable through the noise w/squelch at 0. Might do better outside the building.

Ah, that was the trick I was missing! Holding the FUNC while turning the knob. It sounds much better now. I'll experiment with this for a while more now. Thanks, guys!

Maultsby,

Just a thought on the "digital" sound:

It may mean that you are listening to a digital talk group that is encrypted. When I try to listen to a digital talk group while the user is in the encrypted mode and the talk group is programmed in my scan list (not ID search), I hear what sounds like poor/unintelligible digital audio. I have a 296.

Maybe this is the case with you...?

The BC396 P25 setting "6" seems to decode best on the digital comms I have monitored on sites #26,#27 & #53.

Marshall, have you heard TG 7472? It's some sort of data. Could that be MDT traffic?

I show 7472 as "WCGSA MIRS"...I know it has to be some sort of data signal...I will ask around and let you know as I get more info...
