Looking to see if anyone else is having a simular situation with a BCD396XT. Parma OH is now p25, or I should say this week they are P25. Between them switching between EDACS (analog) and P25 (Digital) over the last few months. In getting this 396 XT last week, I have tried importing files from Radio Ref to this scanner, uploading my files from my BCD396T, and even hand loading this BCD396XT with the P25 info. To my SUPPRISE, I can pickup both police and fire/ems on my BCD396T, but I only get FIRE/EMS on the BCD396XT. BTW: the BCD396T hasn't had any firmware updates added to it, (just because I questions updates sometimes), and I would think if it was a rebanding issue, I shouldn't be able to receive them on the BCD396T..

It isn't clear at all from the database, and you don't clarify it any in your message: Which system is in use for what agency?

There is no reason for the 396XT to not work where the 396T does...so it is a programming issue, but it is hard to troubleshoot further without knowing which system is the one that is working on one and not the other.

Rebanding on the P25 system should not be an issue. Make sure the new system is set to P25 Standard. That may not have happened when you imported them into your software.

When I uploaded my freescan file to the 396XT, the TG audio settings did not upload correctly. I had set all my SAFE-T ISP TGs to "digital only" and after the upload they were set to "All." I was wondering why I was still getting motorboating. So I went and manually changes the TGs to "Digital Only" and that took care of the motorboating.

So go to the menu and make sure the new system is set to P25 Standard.

thanks for the insight!

Thank you for the insight

In working this issue further, I noticed a number of problems adding up.

Software I was using was Freescan, System that appeared to be an issue and not working was anything P-25 (which is what both PARMA, and AKRON are using.

When I dumped the 396XT to a factory reset (not listed in their manual on CD, but happened to be the same as the 396T), I told the system not to load the preloaded software (Frequencies)...

In using the .08D version of Freescan, I imported all the files from the RR web site, manipulated them in freescan and uploaded them to the 396XT. Still nothing heard from those TGID for the P-25 systems.

Everything looked good in freescan, but after 3 hrs of pulling my hair out and talking to a radio (not to forget trying the same thing with my files from the working BCD396t, Low and behold, I found a problem.!!!

It appears freescan told me all the info was in the system, but when I went into the scanner (396XT), My TGID were 0. After I added the TGID by hand for my P-25 system, EVERYTHING came alive on the 396XT, and I was hearing all traffic the same on both scanners.

Don't know if the problem is the files in RR web site, or the way Freescan interprets (imports) files from the website, but all my p-25 trunk groups I Ds (TGID) were 0.

Wow, 3 days of troubleshooting and help from friends and WAH LA.. As for why?? I am not an I T Person or a programmer so I will leave it up to the experts. but now I CAN HEAR!!!..

Sorry for directing my question in the wrong forum. I thought those who had the scanner may have better insite than those who didn't. Owning approx 6 different scanners myself, and seeing approximately 20 + different software packages to load those scanner, I have found in the past it is better to talk to a person or group of people who has the same scanner rather than someone who had a different brand.

Thank you for your reference of the public forum.

In 0.8D, you have to change your P25 System types from Motorola Type II to P25 Standard prior to uploading them to a 396XT. Thats because it defaults to the P25 system used in the 396T/996T, and this is not compatible with the 396XT. I suspect this is why the systems were not working.

0.8E is the latest version, and it changed this behaviour by modifying the system type for you during upload, so it doesn't matter if you have it set to P25 Standard or Mot Type II /P25. Hope that helps.
