Bcd396xt & bcd996xt encryption question

So I was wandering if there is a way to get the 396xt and the 996xt to pickup encryption like the DES / OFB? The 436HP & the 536HP both picks it up but when I put it in the 396xt it does not? Anyone know if its possible to make this work on the 396xt or the 996xt?

If you are hearing voice on that channel, then what you are listening to on that channel is NOT encrypted.

Now if it is DMR MOTOROLA TRBO Then the BCD325P2 and the BCD996P2 both can decode DMR if you buy the DMR upgrade for $60.00 but as of now the 436 536 325P2 996P2 are the only 4 scanners that Uniden makes that decode DMR PROVIOCE and P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2

So what your saying is if the 436hp & the 536hp are picking the channels up the 396xt and the 996xt can somehow be made to pick it up as well? Because just programming the channel in there is not working on them.

What exactly is the 436 receiving that the 396xt isn't?

How about City/State and information about what system & frequency/talk group you are tying to monitor.

The only thing a base 436HP/536HP can pick up that the 396XT/996XT cannot pick up are Phase 2 TDMA P25 systems.

You obviously do not understand DES Encryption and how it works and what type of radios are capable if decoding and receiving DES communication.

You are not picking up any Encrypted communication with any scanner you own!

If it is P25 Phase 2 or DMR then NO the 396XT and the 996XT will not pick up anything more.

I think the 396 models were designed to skip over encrypted channels as there is no known way to decode the encryption. The sheriff in my area is encrypted and my 396 will stop momentarily, if you look you'll see the "enc" on the screen, then it will scan on.

Can you explain what you mean by "pick up"? Does that mean "some kind of sound" or "intelligible audio that you can understand what is being said"?

Then the next question is "Are you really sure that what you 'hear' on your x36 is DES encryption?"

I think the term encryption is incorrectly being used when you are referring to a digital transmission. Like the other posts say about the types of digital, DMR and P25 are not always encrypted but can be. If you hear them in the clear with a scanner they are not encrypted. They are probably phase 2 or DMR if the HP radios have the upgrade.

Correct.
X36 radios get the encrypted noise if it's on phase 2 digital, but not on phase 1

996xt and 396xt won't get the same phase 2 noise, but eliminate the phase 1 noise.

325 p2 and 996 p2 both receive phase 2 encrypted noise, but not phase 1.

No.

Some scanners will play garble noises or static when receiving encrypted transmissions and others will mute encrypted transmissions, but no scanner will actually decrypt an encrypted transmission. If you're hearing intelligible audio on a scanner, the transmission is NOT encrypted.

The whole point of encryption is to make it mathematically impossible to recover the cleartext message (whether words, images, video, or audio) without having the decryption key.

If you're hearing intelligible audio from a x36HP scanner but not from a x96, it's probably P25 Phase II TDMA or some other digital format the x96 cannot process, and that has NOTHING to do with encryption.

Thats listed as an encrypted talkgroup. When its encrypted NO scanner will hear any voice. Be advised if you are hearing voice on it on the 436 than they have turned encryption off . The only other possibility is that it is provoice did you pay for the provoice upgrade in the 436?
