Hello all. The screen on my bcd396xt has endured some scratches, and depending on price, i'd like to get this fixed. Just wondering if anyone knew what part or part number i should ask for when i call uniden. Was also wondering if anyone has done this and would know happen to know the price?
thanks in advance..

I had to replace the front case on my 346XT last year, and it was pretty easy. If all you need to do is replace the LCD window, it's even easier.

KDPZ4B9811A - Display Window
RCUN4C0405Z - Window Foam Gasket

Call Uniden Parts at (800) 554-3988 and tell them those are the part #'s you need. When I ordered mine it was something like $1.12 for the window and 99 cents for the gasket, so naturally I ordered a few of each.

To replace it, you remove the front case (6 screws on the back of the scanner) then pop the LCD window out by pressing it from the outside. It's held on the case by thin double-sided tape/gasket. You might have to clean up the remnants of the glue, but then it's as simple as putting the new gasket on and pressing the new window into place.

Actually I was a bit off on the removal/installation, I just looked at the parts again.

The window pops out from the back, it actually sits within the recessed area on the front of the case. It's held to the front of the case by a thin layer of double sided tape. The gasket is for the inside of the scanner behind the window. You might not even need to replace the gasket if you're careful, but for $1 each it's worth getting one just in case.

Either way, it's really easy to replace.

GREAT input! Thank you very much!!

So is that window in there pretty good, or could a person get it out without disassembling the scanner?

As posted call the Uniden Parts Deparment for what you need as UPman has posted. Uniden has a great parts department. I buy Uniden parts from them when I need them.

It's stuck on there with pretty good adhesive, you'll want to take the front case off. I wouldn't risk trying to pry it out from the front without disassembling it, you'll probably scratch the front case or worse. As soon as you take the front case off, you can gently push it out with your thumbs, clean up the residual adhesive, then install the new window.

You could also try one of the many products available for headlight restoration and buff the scratches out? How bad are they? After that be sure to get a protector even clear packing tape will protect the screen. Use a credit card to push the bubbles out.

My home 20 eating pizza.
What I will do for all of my displays is go out and get some of those cheap smartphone display protectors. I get the cheap ones that cost a few dollars and has a few sheets of screens in it. Then just measure to size, cut, and apply. Works great for me.
