From BCD396XT The Complete Reference,

"Preemptive Priority ID Scanning:

For Motorola systems that have channel priority active on the system, if you flag a channel as priority and the system also has that TGID identified as a priority channel, the scanner will preempt any current transmission if the TGID becomes active."

So my question would be, does anyone know or have a list of TG's that are IDed as a priority channel on the Sacramento Regional Radio Communication System?

The only channel priority ranking system that I am aware of establishes who first gets a "busy" tone when trying to transmit during heavy system usage. IE Law and Fire are Priority 1 while Garbage Service is Priority 5.

And this is not to be confused by the "priority radio traffic" "air clear" "beeper" or "channel marker". Nor should it be confused with the user end "priority channel" during scan function on the mobile and portable radios.

I am curious to what they mean by Channel Priority.

Oh wait - After I posted I believe I know what they mean. If a user pushes the emergency alert button on their portable radio it activates a signal to the radio system and to the dispatch consoles - I believe this puts that Talk Group into a Priority status. Perhaps that is what it addresses.

No, that's not it. The system can have a list of priority talkgroups set up from the controller. It will send that data out on the voice channels if a priority talkgroup is in use on another VC, and if their radio is set up to monitor those talkgroups, it will change their listening TG over to the priority talkgroup.

The 396XT will switch over as well if you have that TG designated as priority. If you do not have that TG set, or if the controller isn't programmed for priority, then it does nothing on your scanner.

Bingo!

and now

I think you can find that out by running Unitrunker on the system if nobody answers...

As someone who currently does not have Unitrunker I guess this would give me a good reason to get it. Unitrunker is something I have been thinking about for a while.

Your master site
You need a GRE or RadioShack scanner to see the analog priority scan TG's. The older RadioShacks print this when you manually monitor a trunked voice channel (which has been set to MO). For the newer radios like the 500/600 and 106 you have to use the PC/IF to output the information.

I do not believe UniTrunker, or any software, provides this information.
