just got this nice machine today. programming by hand, which is a good way to learn the scanner. i've got one conventional system programmed in. it has two groups so far. quick keys are set for system and group. for some reason, when there is no active signal in the system i programmed, the scanner starts scanning one of its preprogrammed groups "News". how can i make this not happen?
thanks,

Undoubtedly you've wandered into the service search menus and activated them. I think the procedure is to use F + L/O 2 times to permanently lock that search out while it's scanning. Someone will correct me...

quick

if you don't hit lockout twice quick then its just temporary
which means it turns on again when you turn it off then on again

Service Search Lockout

If you are hearing something you don't want to listen to, hit L/O once to lock it out until the next power cycle or, hit L/O twice to lock it out permanently in this rhythm; Merry - Christmas.

The other option is more complex, but is you happen to use Freescan, it's SCANNER->Setup Scanner Options->Service Search Tab->Check Lockout->OK->SAVE and upload

Hit the STAPLES "That Was Easy" button.
