Hey all,

I've had my BCD396XT since October. About two months after I got it, the speaker failed. It just plum stopped working. The unit hadn't taken a hit or fall, it hadn't gotten wet, it hadn't been exposed to any extreme temperatures or temperature changes. It just stopped working. About a month after that, the headphone jack began malfunctioning. No matter how clean the contacts on the headphones or jumper were, it would only put out audio intermittently.

My bosses at work apparently have all had the same issue with theirs. I also spoke via EchoLink last night to a fellow ham in Australia who mentioned he also had the same problem. So it doesn't seem isolated. Just wondering if anyone here has had this issue? And your opinion of the repairs Uniden did to yours (if any)?

I've already gotten all my paperwork together, registered the unit on the support site, and will be sending it back to Uniden tomorrow morning for warranty repair.

It seems to be a known issue at Uniden judging from the fact the speaker for the BCD396T is one of the few parts available on the website. Internal Speaker For BCD396T - Accessories at Uniden

My new BC125 uses the same basic speaker and mine went out in less than a month. I replaced it with the speaker available for the BCD396T, I had to retrofit it but it worked. I can't speak to the headphone jack issue as mine still works so far.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10A523 Safari/8536.25)

Thanks Fred. Mine is on the way down to Uniden in Fort Worth this morning. It seems like from the private messages I've gotten that quite a few people have had the same issues as mine.

I know the guys down in Fort Worth will fix her up in no time though.
