ryanisflyboy and bchris:
If you look at the RR Database>Utah>Areawide Trunking>UCAN,
you will see that for Utah County, there isn't diddly squat.
I know for a fact that a lot more talk groups are assigned to that area.
What this forum needs is some members who have
the time and willingness to verify talk groups for us.
Any members from Utah, Wasatch, Summit, & Box Elder Counties:
If you are willing to help, send me a Private Message.
A little about me: I am the current benevolent dictator of the Provo Linux Users Group (PLUG,
www.plug.org). We have about 450 members associated with that group. I work at Omniture as a Sr. Linux System Administrator, and so we meet here once a month. I'm interested in scanner control via the web, groking control channel output with Perl, and anything super-geek that happens to involve Linux and scanning. Windows is tolerated. ;-)
I'd love to try to arrange a monthly meeting for a Utah County scanner group if anyone is interested (similar to PLUG). I'm not sure what other similar groups around the country call themselves. It would be trivial to get a mailing list set up, along with a web site. I've got the experience, and the equipment, to do it all. It might be really interesting to set up some live streams from some scanners on the site. Maybe even figure out how to do remote control of scanners via the web.
Also, one thing I desperately would love to have is an IRC channel where we can all communicate real-time. Is there such a place? Currently I hang out in freenode most of the day. A scanner group should meet the following freenode guideline: 'Non-Software-Related Peer-Directed Project."
Maybe a few of us in Utah county can meet at Omniture some night, and try to hammer out some details to form a group with regular meetings. The second or third week in January is looking best for me. Since I am very new here, are there a group of people in Utah county that have the gear/experience to help form the base membership of such a group? Are you interested in doing so?
Oh, and one thing about me: I don't waste time and tend to jump right to the point. ;-) So, I'd like to announce that I just registered UtahRadio.org, and will plan on getting a site up in the next week or so. What would you like to see done with such a site? Also, i've registered #utahradio on freenode. Simply grab an IRC client (there are lots of free ones out there), connect to chat.freenode.net, and /join #utahradio. I will be in and out through the day.
Is this a good enough start in the help department, MrGadget?
