Couple of strange and probably related things....

Some weeks ago, after slipping the radio into my belt clip, it just went nuts. Worked, but....

(In both cases, the keypad was locked.)

Then, last night, same time, same station (well you know what I mean), the "HOLD" marker started flashing after giving some odd beeps while putting the radio onto my belt again.

NOTHING would stop that - various lock-out tricks, etc. Locking an area worked properly, as did unlocking, and all functions seemed the same as always.

I checked the manual and found nothing but "indicates if holding"....

Last time, uploading the latest version of MY stuff (by way of ProScan) cured things. Last night, though, that didn't help either until I did a full reset and reloaded my ProScan file. It's feeling much better now....

Any thoughts?

Don't be like my '98 DeVille - every week or two it lights up with "Service Engine Soon". I'd suggest "Sober Up Driver", but I quit drinking in 1963. Maybe I should start again? :D

TIA

possibly when putting the radio on your belt, you are pressing the Function button and hitting the lock key. Your fingers in gripping the radio might be causing this to happen. Just for grins, get the radio to scan like you normally do. Holding JUST the antenna, place the radio in your breat pocket. Watch bending over so the radio doesn't fall out, or use the clip to clip your shirt pocket. If the radio operates correctly , then clipping to your belt, you are pressing other keys, in holding your radio while you attach to your belt. Placing the radio in your shirt pocket allows the antenna to be higher, puts the speaker closer to your ear, and its easier to view the screen to see who is talking. The chance of dropping the radio is about the same whether from your belt or your shirt pocket.

The flashing hold is the System Hold function. It means the HOLD button was held more than two seconds, and that is how you release System Hold as well.

I forgot about the hold button for longer than 2 secs. I figure it had to be something he is pushing while he is hanging the radio on his belt though.

Dang....

I figured that Uniden would be kicking my door in to grab the thing before it did a "phaser on overload" thing.... :D (Totally off topic, but can you imagine OSHA and others alphabet-soup agencies reaction to a "handgun" that could turn into a hand grenade by pushing the proper buttons? Yikes....)

I'm sure that the "System Hold" function caused the problem the other day. I'm still not sure what happened that first time. I got downstairs into my office and noticed it, and after a few button-tries, decided to just reload the software. Fine after that.

No "pushing on the belt", I think.... The clip on the belt that I wear around the house lost it's little widget that locks the radio (most of mine have done that!), so little effort is required to take the radio off or putting it on. I wish that Uniden had gone for the "standard" belt clip, like the Motorola clip. The only positive is that you can find the "socket" part in cellphone "stuff". That's how the radio rides in the car....

Thanks, guys!

(teufler: If you think your call is hard to send, a buddy of mine had "K8OTM". Nerves of steel to send the three letters at the end. :D.)

K8LEA: Our radio club has WB0HSI. After a few hours, you have a hard time getting spacing correct. k8oth would be challenging as k8omt. Riding in the car, I have amplified speakers that I plug in. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QPQNLC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00 from Amazon. Some of the new vehicles have aux inputs around the radio that you can plug in ipods or scanners too. Power to the radio, I just rely on battery power, have 3 sets of nicads, EBL brand from Amazon, 2800 mah batteries last about 8 hours, sometimes longer. I use a 5 hour charge setting with Freescan. I have a universal case, that I got through Amazon, but most if time, radio is in my best pocket and I listen with an earphone while walking around. Radios clipped to my belt, I just bend antennas, and break clips. I think I am 3" to short for my weight.
