Although there are some brave souls that have programmed these radios by hand, most will use software. FreeScan is freeware and linked in that article, as well as the user guide, which is also hosted in our wiki. Since I see you're in Ohio, one route you can take would be to go to our Ohio forum and ask for a file for your area.

You will need a USB-serial cable, as Uniden doesn't supply them with their scanners. However, a caution - if you are using Windows 8.x, be sure to be extra careful about your drivers. Micro-stupid has really made a mess of this with Win 8. We have extensive links (and links to cables known to work under Win 8) in the connecting scanners via USB article, which is also linked in the above.

For a complex system(s) such as you mention, using a computer program (FreeScan, ARC XT or ProScan) is your best choice. There are way too many things to program by hand, unless you have hours and hours to do so.

The next step would be to become an RR premium subscriber. That way the software you use can connect with the RR database and download the "stuff" you need to program. This saves the time and reduces the chances of keyboard entry error.

here is a file for Butler County, it is somewhere to start. You can look at it, get some idea how systems are programmed. Its Freescan, uou cn use the prograns EZGRAB function to add or delete until you decide on a Premium Membership. Itys alot faster, particularly when you came into rebanding, and lat long stuff. File is zipped per RR requirements. Any unzipping utility will work. Several use 7-zip as the utility.
