...or, is a person expected to purchase a 536 with the known issue and return it to Uniden for A) a corrected unit or B) warranty repair? Didn't notice it mentioned anywhere.

Haven't heard of a time frame but I did hear they pulled all the units from the shelves they could from their distributors and sellers to get their stock replaced. So I would think at this moment or soon when people buy one, they'll get the newer stock. Just a guess.
