Read the reviews on Amazon. Not as advertised for capacity.
I believe anything over 2700 mAh is not possible in this chemistry.
The higher mAh batteries can be a tad bit tight size wise in some units.
I use Eneloop, they are 2000 mAh but hold a charge for a long time, Eneloop Pro have a little higher capacity but lack the number of charge cycles. I've had good luck with Amazon Basics as well.
Others will chime in on their favorites.

Ikea Ladda batteries, I've been told are the same as Eneloops. They seem to last just as long. Eneloops are my gold standard. I have some EBL 2800s that work fine as well. The Eneloops are far superior though as far as service life. I'm still using some from 8-10 years ago

I tried Amazon basic, energizer rechargeable, I did not like either. Read about eneloopes and gave them a try. I stuck with them. I don’t how long the last, but I know significantly longer then the other two.

These are the only rechargeable batteries I use in my scanners for a long time and their charger.

It is a little investment at first, but with what we spend on radios, might as well get a good charger and batteries.

I think the Powerex Maha Energy chargers are some of the best available. I have the MH-C801D and it's great!

The Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries charges up to 8 AA or AAA nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) or nickel-cadmium (NiCD) batteries in approximately 1 hr. Charge your batteries anywhere around the world via the included 100-240V, 50/60Hz universal AC adapter with a removable, interchangeable power cord. This power supply features a rugged DIN connector to ensure reliable contact.

I haven't been impressed with Powerex batteries however. I've purchased two sets of 8 from Universal Radio back when they were still in business. Right off the get go I noticed when monitoring the reconditioning/charging process different cells responded significantly different from each other as if they were defective. Maybe they were old stock.

I currently use Panasonic eneloop rechargeable batteries.
What is the difference between eneloop and eneloop Pro?

The short answer: the Eneloop Pro battery has a higher capacity than the regular Eneloop with 2500mAh vs. 1900mAh. The Pro can be charged up to 500 times while the regular Eneloop up to 2100 times. The PRO batteries can provide more current than the regular Eneloops.
