I'm assuming that modding the scanner voids the warranty, and that all repair costs will be the responsibility of the owner. I'm just curious what will happen to the mod if the scanner is sent to Uniden for repair, regardless of whether the repair is covered by warranty. Will the GPS module and associated wiring be removed, or will the repair tech work around the mod?

Can't imagine Uniden sending out one of their radios from repair shop with a modification in it.

If someone is going to do a mod like that to a radio, I would think they are also making the decision never to send in for warranty or repairs, since the radio is really no longer a stock Uniden radio.

Most electronics manufacturer will state that: "modifications to this device will void the warranty."

We've all seen and ignored this warning. LOL

As the entire board is replaced when it comes in for those issues, having the mod in place could quite complicate things. At the very least, the mod would have to be redone. I'd not recommend performing this mod on any unit subject to the campaign until the campaign repair has been made.

I sent my 436 to Uniden on July 14, and received it back in thirteen days. The real-time clock issue was fixed. I also enclosed a note with the scanner stating that the antenna connector was loose. The tech fixed the antenna connector; it is now firmly seated. Unfortunately, the scanner's sensitivity is severely degraded. Something must have been messed up during the connector tightening. I checked the squelch, attenuator, and tried another antenna - everything normal with these things.

I called Uniden today on the 800-297-1023 number (couldn't get through on 800-620-7531), and they sent me a FedEx prepaid label to send the scanner back. Hopefully, it will be fixed properly this time, and sensitivity restored to what it was.

I have a 436hp. Have had it for several years now. I have been having the clock issue for about 6 months now. Is the factory repair program still in place?

Can someone tell me what the turn around time is on shipping it back? I check status and tells me they estimate it to ship back in a month.

All you can do is look back in this thread and see what other people has experienced.

I think if Uniden told you they expect to ship it back in a month, then that would be your turn around time.

If they have your radio and acknowledge that, you are way ahead of the game. The 30 days is most likely a worst case scenario; I suspect you will get it back much quicker. Greg

436HP clock repair

I just signed up fir the clock repair program today. have had the radio since sept. 2015 (376Z5800xxxx) and the clock only started losing it memory last month.

I have just 2 questions..

when I send it, back do I include the SD card too?

and since I am in Montreal ..this question is to other Canadians that have sent their radios for this repair..were there any problems getting it back through Customs after the repair? duties? or HST/GST charges?

thanks......

Kirk don't send the SD card, batteries or antenna. I'm Canadian and sent both my 536 and 436 without any issues or charges getting it back through customs. I used the return code from Uniden and put it in the box for return authorization on the UPS form. Uniden did pay me back for the UPS trip south that I paid to UPS.

Good question. I left the box open until I gave it to UPS. Had them make a photocopy of the shipping charges and put it inside the box then sealed it

Actually didn't use a box but used UPS shipping bag..

Received the scanner back yesterday. The sensitivity appears to be back to what it was before the initial repair. The paper that came back said that a "cold solder joint main bd." was performed. As a bonus, the tech also replaced the keypad, which was badly faded. That was a nice touch.

UPMan,
After an unknown period time, probably five or six days, of not using my 536 scanner, I needed to reset its clock, I tested the clock function per the Repair Campaign instructions to test its clock battery. The clock passed the test. The clock worked fine as per the test. I was away this week so the scanner was off for four days. When I turned the 536 on, it needed a clock reset.
How long can a good clock battery go without a recharge in the 536? Is this a symptom of an becoming a 536 clock reset Repair Campaign candidate? I'm not eager to send the 536 back, however just wondering if my 536 is on that path for repair. - Thanks, Ken
