I have set up three custom searches ... when I go to the Search For / Custom Search dept the scanner always searches one of the search areas ... is there some way to turn off all the searches in the Custom Search?
thanks.

If your referring to the 10 custom searches, just hit the keys that relate to your custom search. First bank is 0 and they go thru 9. When I do mine, I put the key number in the name so I can visually see and know what search is running.

thanks, but there always is one search running a scan (unless i hit the function/sys buttons to return to the overall system scan.
when i toggle the button of the remaining button, it simply makes a beep sound and continues scanning. i cant turn off all the custom scans. one remains running.i must have messed up some other setting and didnt realize it.

Go into the the custom search that is staying on while you're scanning (which sounds like what your problem is) and turn off the "Search with scan" feature. That way the custom search doesn't search at the end of scanning all your systems while you have the radio in scanning mode.

You can always go into the search mode separately apart from while in scan mode.

Just to be clear, when you run a Custom Search, at least one of the search ranges will be active: you can never have a situation in Custom Search where none of them are active (the Search equivalent of 'Nothing to Scan'). As @IdleMonitor says it is likely you have enabled Search with Scan (and it is that way round - you're scanning then running a search too). Good advice from @dave3825 on adding number to name, I do the same, recommend it to everyone.
