Some people want to try older firmware for one reason or another. I would say overall the latest is the best so far, but there are a few systems out there that reportedly perform better on older firmware.

Still holding off, although if we can safely roll back - I wouldn't be so cautious... I guess I'd like to know if the older firmware will be available & stable before I jump in.

Gentlemen:

Thank you for all the useful information posted on this forum. I was one needing to return to the 436’s firmware version 1.03. I upgraded to the 1.05 firmware and noticed the signal becoming garbled on occasion while listening the Ohio MARCS Cuyahoga County simulcast. Using the info proved by KD7EIR I was able to go back to 1.03 and immediately noticed improved results.

Again, thanks to all.

Just curious if you modified the P25 decode settings in your scanner, and if so did you reset them when using the latest firmware?

Yes, both ways on each version firmware. The Motorola MARCS p-25 system surrounding Cuyahoga, Lake Counties has seventeen simulcast sites. The 436 and its stock rubber duck antenna is working better with the 1.03 firmware.

Did not know that we had to change it. how do you change to 6 or auto ?

If you aren't having a P25 Simulcast decode issue, then you don't need to change the P25 settings.

Firmware 1.05 fixed an issue with the P25 Auto setting not working properly. For most users Firmware 1.05 improves the P25 decode when using the Auto setting.

A small number of users have reported degraded P25 decode with the 1.05 Firmware. Some of those users have reverted back to Firmware 1.03 and found their P25 decoded improved back to the prior acceptable level.

And I think I read that a couple of those few found that resetting their P25 settings to default made 1.05 better than 1.03 with custom settings.

(Hence my questions)
