Anyone care to share what the pin-out is for the GPS input on the BCD436HP?

Thanks,

Thank you n3617400! I might be doing some traveling next week, and I have a Garmin GPSmap 76CSx. Might try to put me a cable together and give the GPS function a whirl.

Thanks for the info,

If you have a T/XT series programming cable, that uses the same connector. Just add a gender changer and a null modem adapter and you should be all set.

Pinout Help

The images for the pinout from the first link in the thread: Uniden BCD396XT non-standard “USB” cable and a source of connectors. | Daniel Reetz are now dead.

Can anyone provide/confirm the pinout of the 4 pin connector on Uniden scanners?

Based on the pinout from pinouts.ru and Uniden Scanner GPS Features - The RadioReference Wiki I have created this helper image/table: JasonYohon's Uniden GPS Pinouts

Does the scanner actually Tx to the GPS? If so, what is it the scanner Tx'ing to the GPS? Is the CTS pin used by the scanner/GPS?

After an extensive search I did find that Rosewill Cable Model RCW-109 should work for making custom Uniden 4pin connector cables. Currently available from Newegg.com for 2.49 plus shipping. I ordered one, will update when I get it and confirms it is correct.

Ah, that's much farther down the page than I was looking (I was looking at/near the first link on the page).

So Far Away....
I dont believe the radio sends any commands to the GPS..
The GPS units are powered and they have onboard firmware.
They are an active antenna,a SIRF or NMEA format receiver
(Uniden relies on the NMEA protocol) And it sends the data
to the radio.

The radio merely receives and processes the Lat/Long and
matches that with the programmed data that associates it
to a frequency..

I recently set up a TRIMBLE/PLACER450 to use with the 996XT
and its a solid GPS receiver..Im not sure *** to the pinouts,as
the TRIMBLE and UNIDEN are both serial/RS232 output/input..

Thanks for the all the info, you helped me and my BCD436HP out a bunch.

I purchased the Rosewill RCW-109 cable and a Startech C9PSM DB9 male connector, for connecting my Uniden BCD436HP and Garmin Rino 110 GPS(which has DB9 female connector)and verified it works.

I would testing/verifying the continuity of wire colors and terminals at the Mini B connection before soldering to the DB9 Male, this thread post:http://forums.radioreference.com/un...ive-uniden-programming-cable.html#post1628266
seems to use the same Rosewill cable yet used different colors for the connections.

For my situation, After cutting the USB A male off of the RCW-109 cable, I found/tested the following:

Black wire was pin 1 on the Mini B connector
Green wire was pin 2 on the Mini B connector
White wire was pin 3 on the Mini B connector
Red wire was pin 4 on the mini B connector

When soldering to the C9PSM DB9 Male connector, I connected the wires as follows:

White wire to pin 2 on the DB9 connector
Black wire to pin 3 on the DB9 connector
Red wire to pin 5 on the DB9 connector
Green wire is not connected.

Now I don't have to use my 396XT's cable and null adapter/gender changer thingy. Thanks.
