Hello again! I’m starting this new thread to discuss wether or not this particular scanner can pick up LaPortes SAFE-T simulcast network being used. So far no luck and if anyone has any tips tricks and overall useful information on how to enable these frequencies to work I’d greatly appreciate it!

Lake County is simulcast, and this post should be in the SAFE-T thread because.... it pertains to SAFE-T...

On radio reference it states Laporte is Simulcast now too, and I didn’t even know there was a SAFE-T thread. No need to be passive aggressive when it’s a simple question.

The dots threw me off but I have no issues listening to fire and EMS. Police is just super hard to get

Take a look at the La Porte (or LaPorte) listings in the database for Project SAFE-T. Looks like La Porte City Police dispatch and ops talkgroups are encrypted. You won't be able to hear them.

If you have your BCD436HP set up to receive fire and EMS for La Porte county/city and that's working, then you may have done all you can do.

Wouldn't have made any difference. It's not legal in the U.S. to listen to encrypted communications. No scanner that I know of can do it.

The Mode for Laporte PD is DE. The D means Phase 1. The E means fully encrypted.

Off topic but is Lake County still on their own system? Or have they went into the SAFE-T system? I tried researching but there was a lack of information that I've found.

From what I’ve seen it’s all SAFE-T I can’t get anything from them. It’s more than likely Simulcast

Lake County has their own system not affiliated with Safe-T. In the database go into Indiana, highlight Lake County, Lake County Trunk systems, scroll to Lake County Public Safety. All the information you seek is there.

I'm well aware that they have their own system. The question I'm asking is their system is still being used at this time or if they switched to SAFE-T.

Yes or it would have notes listed in the database entry or marked as deprecated. I know they started making some talkgroup changes and departments have been grouped together.

They're unlikely to start using SAFE-T any time soon. There are two LC towns who decided to go on their own, which I'm sure you know are Schererville and Cedar Lake ("Southcom"). Everyone else is on LCPS P2.

There's plenty of interoperability between the two systems when needed. They must have a patch available because one night, CLFD were using Fire South on the LCPS network but they were still using their SAFE-T radios.

Same goes for task force units, although looking at RIDs I think there's a pool of handhelds they give out for SV and CL PDs to use when they're doing saturation.

Yup and I have notes if anyone wants to update the DB. Things change though and it's down to staffing at the 912 center.

Hobart (4) gets patched to Lake Station(113) most days and CP is tied to Merrillville (109). Two mornings ago they had ECPD, LS and Hobart all together because the dispatcher was covering for EC. LOL.

SDRTrunk shows the patched TGs but BTConfig doesn't.

If information needs to be added to the RadioReference Database, please make a submission so that one of the DB admins can take care of it.
