Can I run my BCD436HP scanner full time with an AC adapter without damaging the radio. If so, what adapter would you recommend?

Yes, of course.
There is just an issue: the sensitivity of the Close Call Capture mode will be decreased.
I run my 436 24 h/day on rechargeable batteries power only, because of that.

Not in most cases. It depends on the antenna you're using. If you're using an outdoor antenna (a logical thing if you're running the scanner 24x7 on external power) the power source makes zero difference to sensitivity.

But if your scanner has the self-interference issue and you use USB power you may have an issue if you use the stock antenna.
