Bcd436hp slightly warm on the back

I've noticed my scanner sometimes feels slightly warm on the back near the serial number sticker. It will be warm some and then cool some. I don't use the back light and not plugged in. Does anyone else notice this?

I've noticed mine is warm sometimes as well, must be normal.

So not charging and no backlight, right? That leaves the cells or the regulator. Take the battery cover off an feel the cells. If they are as warm or warmer, it's the cells. If they are cooler, it's most likely the regulator. (in either case, it may be normal depending on how much heat you are talking about)

Ok thanks yeah I guess it could be when heavy traffic and decoding phase 2 or 1 can cause heat?!

It's not the batteries I checked them cool. What is a regulator?
