Alright, thanks. The 436 doesn't have any of the micro-chip GPS stuff? Just manual programming?
None of the current scanner models come with a 'built in' GPS, to set your location. You can purchase a GPS kit that will update your location as you move around one or more states. You do also have the option of simply setting your location, and a range, then letting the scanner use data from the main database to enable channels and talkgroups that match your selected service types.
One of the members on RadioReference,
jonwienke, does offer a modification to install a GPS chip inside various Uniden model scanners, but that is an option, not a requirement, to be able to use GPS.
